Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia

The Royal Flying Doctor Service is honoured to have patronage from each of the Governors of the Australian states, as well as the Governor General of Australia.

The Governor General of Australia and the state Governors are the representatives of the monarch, King Charles III across Australia.

Ms Sam Mostyn AC was sworn in as Australia’s 28th Governor-General on 1 July 2024. 

A businesswoman and community leader, Ms Mostyn is known for her exceptional service to the Australian community. She has a long history in executive and governance roles across diverse sectors, including business, sport, climate change, the arts, policy and not-for-profit.

In 1954 Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Philip visited our Broken Hill base and gave us the Royal assent/charter. Since that time, the Flying Doctor Service has been known as the Royal Flying Doctor Service and we are honoured to have the Royal Charter and patronage and appreciate their ongoing support.
