Description

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) is seeking a Senior Mental Health Clinician to support community health and wellbeing across the Darling Downs. As part of the RFDS Community Health and Wellbeing Service, you will provide free counselling and support to people in rural and remote areas impacted by natural disasters.

We are looking for a proactive clinician who is dedicated to client-centred care with experience in delivering psychological therapies to people presenting with mild to moderate mental health needs. In this role, you will help connect communities, reduce isolation and play a crucial role in rebuilding community capacity after a disaster through education and engagement in services.
  
Who are we looking for?
You are a self-motivated, proactive individual, confident in delivering sessions to both small and large groups within the communities we support. Your self-directed approach allows you to adapt and work effectively across a variety of community environments, as well as remotely from home.
Additionally, you will meet the following criteria;

  • Registration with AHPRA or membership of the AASW
  • Qualification in Psychology, Social Work (Accredited with AASW), Occupational Therapy or Mental Health Nursing (Suitable for Mental Health credentialing)
  • Post-graduate experience in a relevant clinical field
  • Demonstrated experience in brief interventions, and therapeutic counselling with clients across the lifespan
  • Demonstrated experience and respectful understanding of cultural diversity including traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander views of health and wellness
  • Working with Children- Blue Card (Social Workers Only)
  
This full-time position, based in Toowoomba, will run until June 30, 2026, and will require occasional travel and overnight stays.

RFDS (Queensland Section) is partnering with local communities in the Darling Downs to provide mental health, healing, and well-being activities in response to recent natural disasters across Queensland. We aim to enhance psychosocial resilience and promote community connection through adaptable and accessible services. RFDS is committed to helping those affected by recent fires and future events to recover and thrive, with a focus on meeting evolving emotional and mental health needs. We are rolling out individual therapy sessions and delivering programs in the community such as resilience, disaster preparedness, and mental health first aid.
