Description
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) is seeking a General Practitioner (GP) to provide comprehensive patient care through fly-in, and fly-out GP services with our Mount Isa Primary Health Care (PHC) team. You will manage a variety of medical cases, ranging from chronic to acute conditions while working closely with a collaborative team of medical officers, nurses, and mental health professionals.
As a skilled Medical Officer, you will deliver:
- Provide evidence-based medical care in regional, rural, and remote Queensland PHC clinics, following national GP standards (RACGP or ACRRM).
- Deliver comprehensive GP services for chronic and acute conditions, including history-taking, diagnostics, procedures, referrals, and record-keeping.
- Provide acute care in emergencies, coordinating with retrieval services and offering clinical leadership to the PHC team.
- Offer telehealth consultations within your scope and qualifications.
- Collaborate with local care providers to ensure integrated patient care.
- Apply RFDS-approved guidelines and relevant Medical College standards.
- Provide support and advice to nurses and other health professionals as required.
RFDS Medical Officers - PHC are qualified with:
- Registration with AHPRA as a Specialist Medical Practitioner – General Practice.
- Fellowship of RACGP or ACRRM.
- 5 years of relevant experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary medical practice in the PHC environment.
- Experience in emergency care.
- Ability to meet Medical Officer - General Practice credentialing requirements.
- Previous experience in rural and remote health delivery and emergency medicine is desirable.
- Respectful understanding of cultural diversity, including traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander views of health.
The Role
This is a permanent, part-time position (0.34 FTE) based in Mount Isa. It offers flexibility, allowing you to work in a live-in role with generous relocation assistance (if needed) and remote living allowances, or as a fly-in, fly-out position from within Queensland. The role involves 5.5 days of work per month, structured as one week every four weeks, combining travel, clinical shifts, and administrative duties.
