Description

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) is seeking an experienced Senior Mental Health Clinician to join our Child and Parenting Support Service. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to support children and families in a way that aligns with their unique needs and your professional expertise.
The Child and Parenting Support Service provides specialised mental health support to children, parents, and carers in Normanton, Croydon, and Karumba. In this role, you will deliver 1:1 clinical counselling, including play-based therapy for young people and their parents, addressing challenges such as stress, grief, and trauma. You’ll also provide psycho-educational sessions for school staff to better support children dealing with anxiety and other learning difficulties. As the sole RFDS clinician in the community, you will play a vital role in promoting wellbeing, collaborating with other providers to ensure comprehensive care, and building strong partnerships to enhance the quality of service delivery.
The role
- Full-time, maximum term contract until June 30th, 2026
- FIFO role based in Normanton
- FIFO from Cairns with flights and accommodation provided
- Working roster of 12 days on and 9 days off
- Relocation offered to Cairns
RFDS Senior Mental Health Clinicians have:
- Registration with AHPRA or membership of the AASW
- A qualification in Psychology, Social Work (Accredited with AASW), Occupational Therapy or Mental Health Nursing (Suitable for Mental Health credentialing)
- Post-graduate experience of at least 5 years in a relevant clinical field
- Demonstrated experience in brief interventions, therapeutic counselling, case management, and mental health education with children and young people
- An understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing
- The ability to work autonomously
- Confidence to apply expertise and use creativity and innovation in therapeutic services

Candidates are required to hold a current, unrestricted Australian driver's licence. Before the appointment, you will be required to provide certified copies of qualifications/registrations and evidence of immunity or vaccination against vaccine-preventable diseases. You will also be required to complete the RFDS credentialing process.
