Description

We are excited to announce that applications are now open for the role of Manager – Central West & Outback Mental Health with the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Queensland Section.

The Manager – Central West & Outback Mental Health is responsible for overseeing the service delivery, health outcomes, education, representation, advocacy, operational efficiency, and financial performance of RFDS mental health services across the Western Corridor of Queensland. This role collaborates with the State Manager – Mental Health to develop operational plans and ensures their successful implementation in the designated region. You will provide leadership and direction to Mental Health Clinicians, ensuring the delivery of culturally and locally appropriate services that align with National and State Government Health Guidelines, as well as the specific requirements of Primary Health Networks (PHNs) and funding agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Support: Provide leadership, support, and guidance to Mental Health Clinicians.
  • Workforce Management: Lead workforce planning, management, and recruitment.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Operational Planning: Collaborate with the State Manager – Mental Health to implement the operational plan, ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of mental health services and health promotion events.
  • Clinical Governance: Engage with clinical governance processes and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit operational reports in line with funding contracts.
  • Strategic Development: Collaborate with the State Manager – Mental Health to explore opportunities for expanding mental health services.
  • Clinical Service Delivery: Manage a small caseload of clients, delivering direct clinical services.
This role is essential in advancing regional mental health care and maintaining RFDS's trusted reputation across Queensland.

Who We’re Looking For:
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic leader with strong clinical management skills and a deep understanding of contemporary mental health practices. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, committed to quality improvement, and have a proven ability to solve complex problems innovatively.

Key Skills and Requirements:
  • Registration with AHPRA or membership of the AASW.
  • A qualification in Psychology, Social Work (accredited with AASW), Occupational Therapy, or Mental Health Nursing (suitable for Mental Health credentialing).
  • Well-developed management skills, including demonstrated leadership experience in a clinical setting.
  • Ability to meet credentialing requirements within your area of clinical practice and maintain your clinical expertise.
  • High-level communication skills, with experience in facilitating collaboration across government and non-government agencies.
  • Experience in contract management and resourcing for funded projects.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
  • Understanding of current mental health reforms.

About Outback Mental Health Services

RFDS (Queensland Section) operates three mental health outreach programs across Western Queensland. Since 2015, RFDS has led the Drought Wellbeing Service, offering free counselling and support to those living and working in rural and remote areas impacted by drought. In 2019, we launched the Remote Wellbeing Service, placing mental health clinicians in our primary health care clinics across North West, Central West, and South West Queensland. Additionally, the Wellbeing Out West program, established in 2018, was funded by generous donations, including contributions from the RideWest charity ride.

Additional Requirements:
  • Successful candidates will be subject to a police check and may be subject to pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
  • Candidates must hold a current, unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence.
  • Certified copies of qualifications, registrations, and evidence of immunity or vaccination against vaccine-preventable diseases will be required before your appointment.
  • Completion of the RFDS credentialing process is mandatory.
