Communications and Marketing Coordinator
The Royal Flying Doctor Service in WA (RFDS) is on the hunt for a motivated individual to join our communications and marketing team and help make a positive difference to the health and wellbeing of people living, working and traveling regional Western Australia.
The RFDS is one of Australia’s most iconic and trusted charities. As a member of the team, you’ll have the privilege of working with some of our most dedicated supporters, community fundraising groups, staff members and corporate partners to help spread the word about the great work the RFDS and its supporters are doing across WA.
About the role
This role will provide the right candidate with the opportunity to be strategic, creative and innovative.
Reporting to the Communications and Marketing Lead, the Communications and Marketing Coordinator plays a pivotal role in the delivery of the RFDS’s overall marketing and communications strategy.
This role will take the lead in creating and sharing content for our social media accounts and other digital channels, support the fundraising team to meet marketing campaign goals and work collaboratively with other members of the team and external contractors to capture and edit video and photography for both internal and external communications activities.
Our team is small but mighty – the person in this role will need to roll their sleeves up and support wider Community Relations team with activities and projects which may include events (sometimes during evenings and on weekends), tours and stakeholder engagement activities, administration and internal communications
About you
Essential
- Tertiary qualifications in marketing, communications or related discipline.
- Ability to effectively manage and monitor social media including content development, planning and evaluation.
- Strong written, verbal and visual communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with proven ability to be adaptable and manage multiple projects.
- Competency in contemporary digital communication platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, eDM software, Google Analytics and website CMS.
- Understanding of the planning, executing and analysing phases of communications and marketing campaigns.
- Good understanding of the communication and marketing (predominantly digital) landscape in Australia.
- A positive, can-do attitude and proven team player.
- Photography skills.
- Ability to use graphic design software such as Canva.
Desirable
- Basic understanding of project planning and execution.
- Experience capturing video and editing using Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
- Experience working with external contractors (eg videography, graphic design, signage production).
- E-commerce experience (eg Shopify).
- Forward-thinker, who’s not afraid to think outside the box.
- Experience working for a charity or not-for-profit organisation.

What your average day might look like in this role
Starting the day with a check of our social media channels, you’ll be across who’s posting what, commenting where and how many times they’re hitting the like button. Next you might get in touch with our graphic designer to brief them on an upcoming project.
After a strategy chat with the team about our upcoming fundraising appeal, after that you’ll hop into Canva to create some social media tiles for the upcoming campaign. The content you create for social media will become a compelling case for individuals to donate to the RFDS.
In the afternoon you’ll head into our aircraft hangar to facilitate some filming with our crews. These videos will be used for social media, donor communication, internal comms and general promotion to showcase the work we do for Western Australia.
Rounding out the day, you’ll prepare social media posts for the rest of the week, have a peek at our website to make sure it’s up to date with the latest campaign and news content, check our latest EDM and social media analytics and process some invoices.
