We are now recruiting for our next Ground School, commencing in April 2025! We are looking for pilots who are ready to take on the challenge of serving in a dynamic and rewarding environment.

About the role


This FIFO Line Pilot role is based in Meekatharra, WA 6642 and is an exciting opportunity to join the Royal Flying Doctor Service WA team, providing vital services to regional and remote communities on a 0.65FTE basis.

What you'll be doing


- Operate fixed-wing aircraft to transport patients, staff and equipment to and from remote locations
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of aircraft in accordance with all relevant regulations, procedures and policies
- Provide high-quality patient care and liaise with medical teams on board
- Perform pre-flight and post-flight checks and documentation
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of aviation operations and safety

What we're looking for

-Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) 
-Single Pilot and/or Aeromedical experience will be highly advantageous
-Significant experience (minimum 1500 hours) flying fixed-wing aircraft in a variety of weather conditions
-Strong safety focus and commitment to best practice aviation standards
-Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with medical and operational staff
-Resilience and the ability to work effectively in remote and challenging environments

About Us


The mission of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations) is to provide excellence in aeromedical and primary health care across Western Australia. Every member of the RFDS WO team contributes to that mission and living our values of showing respect, demonstrating fairness, utilising diversity and being safe. Every year, the RFDS WO provides urgent retrieval for about 10,000 patients in regional WA. A further 10,000 appointments are provided in primary healthcare clinics in remote communities, including GP, nurse, dental and mental health care. RFDS crews are committed to providing the finest care to the furthest corners of the State, using the highest standards of clinical care, aviation safety and technology to make a difference to people living and working across WA – the largest and most remote health jurisdiction in the world.

The RFDS in WA operates five bases in Perth, Broome, Port Hedland, Kalgoorlie and Meekatharra. Our 24/7 operations centre at Jandakot Airport coordinates complex logistics for patient retrievals and clinics across the State. We work in partnership with government, business and the community, and are proud to work on Country with Aboriginal medical services and many local service providers.

In 2024, the RFDS is launching a new five-year strategy ‘Above and Beyond’, which will mark an important new chapter in the long Flying Doctor history. The strategy will include a focus on expanding remote health clinics in some of WA’s most vulnerable communities, expanding our profit-for-purpose services, strengthening our workforce, harnessing technology and addressing our environmental sustainability.
