The Royal Flying Doctor Service is an organisation that requires little introduction. We’ve been supporting rural and remote communities since 1928 and are there when we’re needed most.

Are you ready for a change from a hospital setting or even out of the city? We are currently recruiting for the Emergency Retrieval team of our organisation for August 2024 and February 2025 start dates. Opportunities are available for Full Time Registrars and Part Time Consultants to join our team. With us you’ll get the best of both worlds, regional living and the opportunity to be with a patient from the second they call for help to ensure they receive the best care.

A Day in the Life of a Retrieval Registrar

No two days or two patients will be the same. We offer a variety of rotations at our various sites in the Far West and Western, NSW including;

  • our Bases in Dubbo and Broken Hill. You will participate in a rotating training program with placements in Dubbo and Broken Hill;
  • local rural hospitals; and
  • providing telehealth services.

Who are we looking for? We require our Medical Officers to:

  • Have a minimum of 5yrs post graduate experience.
  • Be at an advanced trainee level from one of the following colleges: CICM, ACEM, ANZCA, ACRRM (with JCCA/DRGA). This includes equivalent colleges from eligible overseas applicants.
  • Have completed a minimum total of 18 months critical care time (ED and ICU) and 6 months anaesthetics.
  • Have experience in the management of critically ill patients including trauma.
  • Ideally have completed ALS, APLS, ATLS (or equivalent)
  • Have recency of practice in a critical care environment
