When single dad, RFDS fundraiser and ocean adventurer, James Brougham spoke to the Flying Doctor Podcast, he and his two daughters were anchored just off the coast of Darwin, aboard their beloved yacht ‘Salty Jocks’.
Having left their city home in Perth to sail up the WA coast, James and his girls, Halle and Isla, have spent the past two years exploring, fishing and ‘simply thriving’ in the stunning WA waters of the Pilbara and the Kimberley.
In this delightful and inspiring Episode #90 of the Flying Doctor podcast, James explains why he decided to push his two daughters in a wheelbarrow some 500km, to raise money for the RFDS’s Oceans to Outback annual fundraiser.
Using a $200 concreter’s wheelbarrow, stuffed with cushions and plush toys, James and his daughters raised $11,000 for the RFDS back in 2022 – and they now plan to raise even more in 2024!
So strap yourself in for an incredible sailing adventure along the remote WA coast, as we hear how James juggles remote home schooling, single parenting and the highs and lows of living aboard with two children under six.
