The 'Flying Doctor Podcast' has been just announced as a finalist in the 2022 Australian Podcast Awards, in two categories (Best Interview and Best Branded podcast).

The podcast, hosted by Lana Mitchell, launched just two years ago and has since released 60 interviews of real patients, family members and staff of the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

These are gritty stories about the challenges of living, working or travelling in the bush.

The rural and remote communities that the RFDS services are made of strong and often courageous individuals. They don’t enjoy the close proximity of health services that people in metro areas enjoy, and they work shoulder-to-shoulder with the RFDS to act as first responders, clear and light dirt runways, oversee RFDS medical chests and much, much more.

The purpose of ‘The Flying Doctor’ podcast is to give insight into the challenges that exist for those that live, work and travel in the bush.   In this series we talk to real patients, to their families and also to RFDS staff who have had to tackle scary and unexpected situations.

It is about mateship, about life in the bush, and about the role that the Royal Flying Doctor Service plays in servicing rural communities.
