New Year’s Eve is traditionally a time for people to let their hair down and celebrate with family and friends. While no one expects illness or injury over the New Year break, the Royal Flying Doctor Service is typically kept busy.
Last year on December 31 and January 1st, the RFDS crews:
Transferred 206 patients for various injuries and illnesses,
Made 145 flights
Covered 125,932 kilometers,
Spent 398 hours in the air
Once again, this year RFDS pilots, doctors, and nurses will be on call 24/7 to ensure Australians get help if they need it -- no matter where they are located.
With restrictions on overseas travel still in place and interstate borders opening up again, it is likely more Australians will be on the move, travelling to catch up with friends and family or to enjoy a well-earned holiday.
Please celebrate safely and remain vigilant over the holiday period, particularly when travelling in rural and remote Australia.
