It is with great sadness the Royal Flying Doctor Service learns of John Fahey’s passing. John Fahey, in addition to his significant political and social roles, was an Independent Councillor for the Australia Council of the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia from 2003 to 2006.
John Fahey played a key role in a national governance review and restructure of the RFDS, laying the foundation for the structure that has continued to serve the organisation through to today. Today the RFDS structure reflects John’s insight and dedication, and for that we are forever grateful. His legacy sees the RFDS serving more than 1,000 patients daily and continuing to improve health outcomes for those in the bush.
To his colleagues and friends at the RFDS, John was respected as a person who studied the facts, demonstrated a willingness to apply reason, and at all times promoted the principles of fairness and ethics. His passing will be mourned by us all.
“John Fahey enjoyed enormous respect from all those on both sides of politics, and from across the general community for his commitment to serving the people of this country. The Royal Flying Doctor Service is grateful for his lasting legacy,” said Nev Power, Chair of the RFDS Federation Board.
“He will be missed by RFDS staff and board members, and we extend our deepest condolences to John’s wife Colleen, and his children Melanie and Matthew.”
