As the festive season approaches, many Australians are preparing to relax and celebrate with loved ones.

However, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) remains steadfast in its commitment to providing 24/7 care across the vast expanse of our nation, ensuring that even in the most remote areas, medical assistance is always within reach.

Operating across 7.69 million square kilometres, the RFDS has made a profound impact over the past year. With 345,136 total patient contacts, including 55,930 telehealth consultations for rural and remote patients, the RFDS continues to provide vital healthcare services. Covering 27.5 million kilometres—equivalent to 34 trips to the moon and back—the RFDS ensures that life-saving care reaches even the most isolated parts of Australia. Primary healthcare remains a cornerstone of the service, with 158,587 face-to-face consultations delivered over the year.

These achievements are a testament to the unwavering dedication and skill of our pilots, doctors, nurses, and support staff.

While we all hope for a “Silent Night” during the holidays, the RFDS crews stand ready to respond to any medical emergencies, ensuring that help is always available, no matter how remote the location.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our staff for their tireless commitment and to all Australians for their ongoing support and trust. Your generosity enables the RFDS to continue its vital work, bringing healthcare to the furthest corners of our country.

Are your kids keeping an eye to the sky for a red belly this Christmas? They may be in luck! More than 100 red bellies can be spotted above Australia every day, as the RFDS airlifts someone to life-saving care or specialist treatment. From all of us at the RFDS, thank you for your support. Stay safe, look out for one another, and have a joyous holiday season.
