Appointments
- Standard appointments are up to 15 minutes.
- Long appointments are more than 15 minutes.
Each appointment is for one patient. If you have other family members who require medical attention, please make a separate booking for them.
Long Appointments
Are available if patients feel they will require additional time, have more than two matters, require a referral letter, are making an insurance claim, have paperwork to be completed, or need a Cervical Screening Test, care plan or full medical examination.
Prescriptions and Referrals
Repeat prescriptions for regular medications and referrals will require you to make an appointment with the GP.
Reminder Systems:
Our practice is committed to preventative health care. We operate a reminder system to advise when regular checks are due e.g. Cervical Screening tests, immunizations and regular check ups. If you do not wish to part of this system, please advise reception staff.
Disease Registers
With your consent, this practice submits patient data to various disease specific registers (cervical, breast bowel screening etc) to assist with preventative health management.
The Clive Bishop Medical Centre
Is operated at the Royal Flying Doctor Service base in Broken Hill and opened its doors in August 2014. British philanthropist, Sir Michael Bishop donated significant funds to the development of this new medical centre which has been named in honour of Sir Michael's father, Clive. The recent refurbishment was achieved through a Federal Government infrastructure grant.

Patient Information
Fees
Fees and charges are clearly displayed at the reception desk & in the patient information book. Eligible patients are bulk-billed, including: concession card holders, veterans, aboriginal/ Torres Strait islanders, children under 16 years and students. Where a fee is charged it is payable at the time of consultation by cash, cheque, EFTPOS, Visa or MasterCard.
When arranging appointments to see specialists or obtaining other services outside RFDS, you should inquire about their fees.
Results
If results are normal and no further discussion is required, we will not contact you for a further appointment. In the event that the result or correspondence is clinically significant, you will be contacted to discuss the best treatment options.
Communication Policy:
Any calls to GPs will initially be taken by the receptionist and the doctor will return your call when convenient. If the matter is urgent please notify the receptionist and you will be transferred to the nurse or doctor. Email communication is discouraged due to security issues
Management of Health Information:
It is our policy to ensure the security of your electronic medical record at all times and this information is only available to authorised members of staff. Full details are found in the Privacy Pamphlet available at Reception.
Facilities for People with Disability:
The clinic is accessible for people with disabilities and people using wheelchairs. Disabled parking and accessible bathroom facilities are also available. Please discuss any special needs with reception or your doctor. A wheelchair is also available on request.
Interpreter Service
Translating and interpreter services are available. Please inform our reception staff when booking your appointment.
Your rights and responsibilities
RFDS leaflet “Your Rights and Responsibilities as consumer of a health care service” is displayed on the wall in Reception. Copies of the leaflet are readily available in the waiting area.
“10 tips for safer healthcare” Is a useful leaflet providing information to help improve your health care experience. It is available at reception or for download at www.safetyandquality.gov.au
Teaching policy
RFDS is a training facility which means we may have a registrar and/or students working under the supervision of senior doctors. If you are uncomfortable with having a student or third party present, please let our staff know.
Consumer Feedback
We encourage patients to comment on any aspect of our service. A suggestion box is located in the reception area for your confidential comments.
If you have a complaint, we would encourage you to discuss it directly with the doctor or nurse, or put your complaint in writing to the General Manager Health Services.
