Dubbo's newest tourist attraction has opened its doors.
The rich history and extensive footprint of the Royal Flying Doctor Service has been brought to life, with the opening of the landmark Royal Flying Doctor Service Visitor Experience.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service's multi-million dollar Visitor Experience is set to become a local tourism hotspot and it has already helped create more than a dozen new jobs in Dubbo.
The Visitor Experience in Dubbo is the first of its kind in Australia, featuring interactive exhibits and engaging experiences for young and old. Features include a unique cinematic experience, augmented reality, and the opportunity to explore the fuselage of a Royal Flying Doctor Service plane.
‘This is a unique opportunity to hear stories from our dedicated team members and unique communities- to learn about real medical emergencies and understand the services the RFDS now offers, from mental health to dental,’ said CEO Greg Sam.
The centre also has a café and an impressive event space, which can seat up to 300. It’s expected that the centre will have over 42,000 visitors per year by 2021, contributing significantly to Dubbo’s visitor economy.
The Visitor Experience is part of the multipurpose redevelopment at the Dubbo base, which has been partly funded through the NSW Government’s Restart NSW initiative as well as the Dubbo Support Group, bequests and various generous donors. Revenue from the centre will support ongoing service delivery.
