There aren’t enough words of thanks we can give to Jenny for her over 50 years of commitment which began when she opened the clinic on her family property in the 1960’s.
Jenny’s passion for helping others is evident and she cherishes the memories she has created along the way.
In 1997, Jenny faced a significant challenge when floods swept through the region, washing away the clinic rooms she had hosted for nearly four decades. Undeterred by this setback, the new clinic building was relocated over the creek from the homestead on higher ground.
“They were hard times, but as a family we wanted to keep helping our community clinics,” she reflects. “The RFDS has always been a lifeline for us, and we wanted to do our part.”
In addition to her volunteer work at the clinic, Jenny is a Royal Flying Doctor Medical Chest custodian, enabling emergency treatment for families who live, work, or travel nearby.
Jenny’s dedication to her community extends beyond her work at the clinic. As a long-standing member of the Broken Hill Women’s Auxiliary, Jenny and her fellow members make hundreds of Christmas puddings each year, raising thousands of dollars for the Flying Doctor.
“It’s about more than just the puddings; it’s about coming together for a cause that matters,” Jenny shared.
Throughout her time volunteering, Jenny has witnessed firsthand the impact the clinic has had on the community. She understands the importance of having reliable healthcare available.
“The RFDS has been there for so many families, including my own. It’s a service we can trust, and that’s why I’m proud to volunteer,” Jenny said.
At 89 years old, Jenny’s story stands as a testament to the spirit of service and community, still running the Wiawera clinic.
“Volunteering with the RFDS has enriched my life in ways I never imagined. You’ll make lifelong friends and be part of something truly special,” she said.
We are grateful for the incredible service Jenny has provided to the Flying Doctor and her community over the past five decades.
