Medical chests are a part of our history and a lifeline for outback families.

In the heart of rural, regional and remote Australia, where healthcare facilities are hours—or even days—away, our Medical Chest program bridges the gap.

These sturdy, lockable steel containers are packed with nearly 90 essential items, from prescription medicines to first aid supplies, offering life-saving support to communities that need it.

Our new Lead Pharmacist based in Dubbo, Rochelle Olsen says, “They empower people in isolated areas to respond to both emergencies and everyday health needs, all under the guidance of our medical team.”

Did you know we have almost 400 medical chests? They are more than just boxes; they’re a lifeline, strategically placed in locations like cattle stations, remote communities, and outback tourism sites.

Medical chests are approved for use by rural NSW residents who have limited access to a healthcare facility. These residents have reliable phone access to connect with our doctors, who authorise the use of medical chest items.

The chests are tailored for ease of use, with contents meticulously organised into five compartments.

A comprehensive manual ensures custodians can confidently provide basic care and administer medications.

The Medical Chest program saves lives and provides peace of mind. It’s healthcare, delivered directly to the bush.
