Anne’s lifelong passion for flying has inspired her to leave a gift in her Will to the Royal Flying Doctor Service (South Eastern Section).

Through her generosity as an Outback Guardian, Anne’s legacy will ensure her love of aviation and dedication to helping others continues to make a difference in outback communities.

Her journey began at just six years old when a flight on a DC3 sparked her fascination with aviation. Determined to make her dream a reality, Anne broke barriers in the male-dominated industry of the 1960s, earning her Commercial Pilot’s License and becoming a flight instructor with Rex Aviation.

Anne’s adventurous career saw her compete in global air races, including the prestigious Powder Puff Derby, and she won titles in Australian flying competitions. She also promoted aviation through speaking engagements, founding the Cessna Flyers Club, and participating in air rallies worldwide.

In 1968, Anne visited our base in Broken Hill, where she saw firsthand the vital impact of the Flying Doctor. Meeting a School of the Air teacher using our equipment to connect remote children left a lasting impression, deepening her commitment to supporting the service.

Reflecting on her life and contributions to aviation, Anne attended our annual Year in Review meeting in November, marvelling at how far the Royal Flying Doctor has progressed since she first encountered it almost six decades ago.

“It’s so important to support families in outback Australia, giving them access to essential medical, dental, and mental health care,”
Anne says. “If the Flying Doctor isn’t there, who will be?”
