Almost 4000 festivalgoers lined up on the Mundi Mundi Plains in August to attempt a world record for most people doing the Nutbush, raising almost $90,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
As the official charity partner of the Mundi Mundi Bash on August 18-20, the Royal Flying Doctor Service was the recipient of all proceeds from tickets to the Nutbush and the Mundi Undi Run. Proceeds from early exit tickets sold by the event organisers the Outback Music Festival Group (OMFG) were also donated to the RFDSSE.
At the Flying Doctor tent at the event, people also stopped by and made generous donations, and purchased tickets in a raffle for a fantastic one-of-a-kind RFDS firepit. The support received from the Bash attendees and organisers was overwhelming.
A total of 3720 people completed the official Nutbush attempt on Saturday, August 20, going agonisingly close to the record of 4084 set at the Big Red Bash in Queensland a few weeks earlier. It was a huge increase on the 2106 who participated at April’s Bash and sets the scene for an even bigger attempt in 2023.
While the record wasn’t broken, it was impossible to see the event as anything but a success as the funds will ensure the RFDS can continue to provide vital medical services in rural and remote communities.
The Undi Run also continued its role as an iconic part of the Mundi Mundi Bash. Taking place on the second day of the Bash, approximately 570 people showed off their smalls in imaginative ways on a 1.1 kilometre run/walk through Mundiville. From sportspeople to superheroes, and of course the mankinis, there was plenty of colour and flare on display during the run.
In amongst all of the activities, three incredible concerts featuring artists like Midnight Oil, Jimmy Barnes, Jon Stevens, Missy Higgins and Kasey Chambers gave the 8,000 attendees something to sing and dance to.
The August event was the second for the year. The inaugural Bash was held in April, after needing to be postponed from August 2021 due to the pandemic. Next year a single event will be held on August 17-19, 2023.
