The beginning of every new year brings with it the hope for a fresh beginning, a feeling of optimism that we can walk a fresh path in the year ahead, strengthened by all we have learned in the preceding year.
The entirely new challenges presented to us in 2020 and 2021 have demanded much more from all of us than we could ever have anticipated: unpredictable changes in direction, limitations, and a great deal of uncertainty. I know that many people I have spoken with have found the cumulative effects of these demands over the last couple of years tiring, to say the least.
But hope too is also a constant. In many respects, the change which surged throughout last year showed us many strengths. At the Flying Doctor we learned that rapid growth and agility is possible when it is demanded of us, and that we can rise to the challenge of meeting the increased healthcare needs of the community with calm, care, and good humour.
We also learned that a lot can be accomplished through solid partnerships, working together with the healthcare providers around us. In our efforts to roll out the vaccine across our communities and continue respiratory testing, all while continuing our usual service delivery, we increased our service delivery markedly, and formed stronger bonds with community groups. These are the unexpected gifts of being tested. Finding new reserves of strength and capability.
In the year ahead we are going to take what we have learned, and what we have gained, to strengthen our commitment to the health and wellbeing of the people of the bush. And while we do, one thing is always sustained; our supporters are extraordinarily loyal and generous. You stood by us when uncertainty was the only thing we could confidently predict. Thank you for all you do to ensure quality healthcare is available to everyone, no matter where they live, work or travel.
I sincerely hope the year ahead is good to you, whatever it may bring. Thank you for your loyal support.
