We regularly travel to schools to teach students about the work we do in remote communities and one exciting way to do that is with our Mobile Education Unit (MEU).
The MEU is a life-sized replica of the fuselage of a Flying Doctor plane which is portable and can be taken to schools. It is fully equipped with stretchers, communications, oxygen, and the other equipment used every day by the doctors, nurses and pilots of the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
The MEU requires expensive, high-power batteries, so when Dubbo businessman and West Dubbo Rotary member John Robertson attended an event at the Dubbo Base recently and overheard Dubbo Support Group members Annabel Peet and Noel Pearce talking about needing new batteries for the MEU, he kindly offered to supply them free of charge.
We are so grateful for this generous donation which allows students to continue to learn the stories and history of the RFDS. A big thank you to Mr Robertson from Robertson’s Tyrepower. Who knows, maybe a child we inspire today with the MEU will be a future RFDS flight nurse, pilot or doctor.
