The Royal Flying Doctor Service (South Eastern Section) (RFDSSE) has made two new executive appointments, with Dr Shannon Nott joining as the Executive General Manager – Health & Clinical Services and Chief Medical Officer (CMO), and Mark Davey joining as Executive General Manager – Aviation & Operations.
Dr Shannon Nott
Dr Shannon Nott has over a decade of experience as a rural generalist, and has spent the last 6.5 years as the Rural Health Director of Medical Services for Western NSW Local Health District, the largest LHD geographically in NSW, covering more than 250,000km2 and home to more than 276,000 people.
A leading authority on Australian rural healthcare, Shannon is recognised for his ‘whole of health’ and collaborative approach to healthcare design and delivery.
In addition to his role with the Western NSW Local Health District, Shannon has worked with RFDSSE for over five years as a part-time rural generalist working in both our retrieval and primary care services.
Shannon's interest in virtual care led to his role as the Clinical Director of NSW Health's Virtual Care Accelerator, advancing virtual healthcare during the COVID pandemic.
He serves as the Lead Medical Advisor for Virtual Care in NSW, contributing to global initiatives such as the World Health Organization's Roster of Digital Health Experts.

Shannon will commence his new role in mid-March 2024.
Mark Davey
Mark Davey, the former General Manager – Strategy Projects for Virgin Australia, and former Executive General Manager for Virgin Australia Regional Airlines, has more than 40 years’ experience in the aviation sector, with nearly 20 years of management experience with commercial airlines including QantasLink and Virgin Airlines.
“The aviation sector has gone through an evolution over the last decade. External forces like increasing fuel costs, supply chain challenges, and the availability of highly trained talent have put pressure on the sector to adapt and innovate. We are no exception,” Greg Sam said.
“We are delighted for Mark to bring his commercial and change management acumen to the Royal Flying Doctor Service. As a not-for-profit aeromedical and healthcare provider, we have a long history of innovation and firsts in our sector, and under Mark, we believe we can take headwind challenges and shape them to our advantage,” Greg Sam said.

“I was born and raised in Western NSW, have worked in far Western NSW, and am still closely connected to people in these communities. I understand the essential nature of the services provided to regional, rural and remote communities by the RFDS.”

Mark will commence his new role in early March 2024.
Other changes in the executive
Jenny Beach, the former General Manager of Health Services will also be moving into a new role as Executive General Manager - Health Service Development. Jenny will work closely with stakeholders on future primary health opportunities, including the establishment and management of our general practice footprint in regional NSW.
We also thank Dr Randall Greenberg who has retired from his Executive role, but will continue to provide clinical leadership as the interim CMO during the Executive transition.
