Betty and Dinah walked to bring better health to the Outback.
Betty is a retired minister. Having lived in rural Australia for most of her life, and worked in Broken Hill in 2022, she knows first-hand how families in the bush rely on the Flying Doctor.
It was through visiting our Broken Hill Visitor Centre and reading the many stories of families whose lives had been saved through the generosity of others, that Betty was motivated to join our Oceans to Outback challenge when it popped up in her 2023 calendar.
She was deeply touched by the generosity of her friends and family who helped her raise over $3,000 as she walked 250kms in October last year.
Betty is keen to do the challenge again and encourages anyone who can help to set themselves a challenge.
Dinah was overwhelmed by the support she received last year while participating in our Oceans to Outback community fundraising challenge and she’s inspired to do it all again this year. Dinah moved from the UK just over 50 years ago as a young nurse and was intrigued by the Flying Doctor and the care they provided to families in the outback. Still to this day she is inspired by the work and wants to be part of helping families. Dinah was truly touched by the generosity of her friends and community who helped her raise just over $2,900 - far exceeding her initial goal of $1,000 and helping bring awareness of our healthcare services. She enjoyed walking every day with her dog Lilli and is looking forward to starting the challenge again this year.
