Diagnosed with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), 12-day-old baby Zach was in the ICU at Sydney Children's Hospital receiving specialist care.
After he fought hard for two weeks, doctors finally said Zach was well enough to recover closer to home in Orange hospital.
However, baby Zach still needed constant oxygen support, and he had been assessed by doctors as unsuitable for regular transport home.
Because of your support, a non-emergency transfer delivered baby Zach and his mum Rochelle safely home. Our experienced Retrieval team ensured Zach had the critical care he needed mid-flight, reuniting him with his dad, David, and three-year-old big brother, Luke.
“The staff were incredibly caring, and we knew Zach was receiving the best possible care. It was amazing to see how well-equipped the plane was and how skilled the team was in providing care, even in the middle of the air,” Rochelle said.
For two weeks, their family had been separated. Rochelle had stayed by Zach’s side in Sydney, while Luke and David waited anxiously back home. They desperately wanted to be together and shower baby Zach with love.
Now nine-months-old, Zach (pictured above) is thriving, meeting all his milestones, and keeping up with Luke.
You're the reason baby Zach got home safely. Thank you for bringing families in the bush together.
