Woolworths customers can play a part in keeping the lifesaving work of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) (Queensland Section) going by making a special in-store donation from today.
For the next three weeks, customers shopping at Woolworths across 256 stores in Queensland and Northern New South Wales are invited to purchase a $2 token which will be donated to the RFDS (Queensland Section).
RFDS (Queensland Section) Acting Executive General Manager Fundraising and Philanthropy Sebastien Krantz said the community has shown amazing support for the campaign over the years.
“Through the generosity of Woolworths customers, the RFDS (Queensland Section) has been able to raise more than $3-million and provide additional lifesaving equipment and services that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise,” Mr. Krantz said.
“Shoppers can donate via the token over the next three weeks or make a donation at the register all year round by selecting the RFDS (Queensland Section) as their chosen charity.”
Store Manager at Woolworths Toowoomba Grand Central, Tony Marris, has been a part of this annual fundraiser for the past nine years.
Local team members have worked closely with the RFDS for many years, raising donations and supporting the local base.
“Seeing our community get behind the fundraiser each and every year shows just how much the work the RFDS means to everyone,” Tony said.
“It’s created an opportunity to share stories, not just with customers but also within the team.
“I’d like to say a big thanks to all our customers for their generous support and let them know every donation makes a difference.
Ten years ago, Shannon Smithwick had to make an emergency trip from her home at Blackwater to Brisbane with the RFDS (Queensland Section) when she went into pre-labour at 31 weeks.
It was that care that ensured her twins Penny and Charlotte were born safely and eventually went on to be the stars of a Woolworths token campaign five years ago.
The RFDS B200 simulator will be touring the state throughout May and can be seen at Woolworths stores in Emerald (1 May), Blackwater (3 May) and Gladstone (8 May).
