We all experience moments of angst and anxiety, yet understanding how to cope with, and move forward from, these emotions is no easy feat.
While, largely, The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) is renowned for its near 100-year history of aeromedical retrievals, transfers and primary health care services, we have also been providing mental health services for a quarter of a century.
As such, the RFDS team is marking Queensland Mental Health Week by providing a range of mindfulness activities focused on supporting the mental health and wellbeing of people living in regional, rural and remote Queensland.
The series of activities will also see a variety of activities including arts and crafts, and tailored mental health first aid training, including improving the knowledge of mental illnesses, treatments and first aid actions. Each of the events aim to foster awareness, belonging, and connection within the community. The details are as follows:
Boulia Mental Health Week Event
When: Wednesday, 12 October, 11am-2pm
Where: Boulia Shire Hall, 29 Herbert Street
Activities: Rock painting, pot decorating, succulent planting, mindfulness activities
Cloncurry Mental Health Week Event
When: Friday, 14 October, 10am-2pm
Where: Centacare NQ Cloncurry Neighbourhood Centre, 57 Sheaffe Street
Activities: Rock painting, pot decorating, succulent planting, mindfulness activities
Longreach Mental Health First Aid Training
When: Tuesday 11 October, Wednesday 12 October, 9am-4.30pm
Where: JCU Room, Longreach Base Hospital , Jabiru St, Longreach 4730
Activities: Practical mental health first aid skills, confidence development, and support
