Flying Doctor Foundation
Send your name soaring into the future as part of the Flying Doctor Foundation.
The vital work of the Royal Flying Doctor Service would not be possible without the many great benefactors who have supported our organisation since its inception. One of our founding supporters was Hugh Victor McKay, who bequeathed two thousand pounds in 1926 (more than $AUD290,000 today), and helped lift the humble aerial medical service in the outback that later became the Royal Flying Doctor Service of today.
Today the Royal Flying Doctor Service has grown enormously, not just in the emergency service space but also to meet the increased need for primary health care services among those who live, work and travel in rural and remote Australia. In Victoria, though the distances may not be as vast, the need for RFDS’ mission continues to grow. We seek to improve access to healthcare, and strengthen the health of Victorian communities through improved mental and physical health, and better social connection. Put simply, we have always been there to take people to hospital in their time of need, but we also want to keep people out of hospital wherever possible. To do this, now and into the future, your support is vital.
“INVESTING IN THE FUTURE OF THE ROYAL FLYING DOCTOR SERVICE THROUGH SETTING UP THE DOUGLAS FAMILY GIFT IS SOMETHING THAT IS VERY SPECIAL TO THE WHOLE FAMILY. IT HAS ENABLED US TO CREATE A LASTING LEGACY IN PERPETUITY.”
Alan Douglas
Be part of the Flying Doctor Foundation
The Foundation is an internal fund of the Royal Flying Doctor Service Victoria that exists as an investment in the future of the organisation and the services it provides.
Two-thirds of net earnings each year are distributed to support communities with the greatest need, whether they are in the furthest corner of Australia, or right here in Victoria. One-third of the net earnings are reinvested in the principal to ensure the money you invest can support people in need in perpetuity.
There is no set minimum amount to give, and donations can be made at any time.
For donations of $10,000 or more you can establish a Named Account within the Foundation so that your vital, ongoing contribution to the Flying Doctor can be recognised and directed to specific programs. Further donations of any amount can be added to the Named Account at any time.
If you would like to make a donation or seek further information please reach out to our Philanthropy Manager; Naomi Lehrer on 03 8412 0431 or at philanthropy@rfdsvic.com.au
