The RFDS in VIC
Scholarship program
Recruiting and retaining allied health professionals in rural areas is a long-standing problem in Australia and overseas, and strategic action is required to grow and better equip Victoria’s rural workforce.
In active recognition of this problem, RFDS Victoria offers rural students support through the Give Them Wings scholarship program.
Since 2012, these scholarships have been awarded annually to university students from regional, rural and remote Victoria who are studying nursing or allied health.
In addition to providing financial assistance, the scholarships also offer students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience with one of our patient transport or primary health care teams – either on the road or in the air.
By providing exposure to the work the Flying Doctor does across Victoria, the Give Them Wings scholarship program is intended to encourage students to seek employment in regional or rural towns upon graduation, and put their vital skills to work in the communities that need them the most.
Give Them Wings has now ended its 2024 round. If you applied and have not received notification of your outcome please reach out to scholarships@rfdsvic.com.au as there may have been an issue with the email you entered.
Applications for the next round will open in April 2025.
