On Thursday 16 March, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Victoria provided members of the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce (MCC) with a behind-the-scenes tour of its hangar at Essendon Fields. This was part of MCC’s Best Practice tours program, which showcases the achievements of Victorian businesses and provides its members with exclusive insights into the operations of industry-leading organisations.
The tour allowed guests to gain a deeper understanding of RFDS Victoria’s aeromedical operations, while also having the chance to explore a Mobile Patient Care vehicle and a Memory Lane vehicle.
RFDS Victoria currently occupies the historic heritage-listed Hangar 85 at Essendon Fields. This hangar was originally built in 1944 for the production of Beaufort bombers, which played a key role in Australia's defence in World War II.
The highlight of the tour for many was the chance to climb on board the Flying Doctor’s B350 Beechcraft Super King Aircraft and take a closer look at the inner workings of our airborne hospital. Guests also had the opportunity to speak with Pilot Sean and Flight Nurse Ruth, who shared real-life stories about their travels and patients they have helped.
Through RFDS’s partnership with MCC, business industry leaders from across Victoria were able to hear first-hand stories from the field and in the air. We are incredibly proud of our business partnerships here in Victoria and love to demonstrate the very real impact the Flying Doctor has here in Victoria.
“We’re really proud of these events as they provide an invaluable opportunity to connect, share and learn from each other about exceptional practices inspired by you, our members,” says MCC CEO, Scott Veenker.
The Melbourne Chamber of Commerce is focused on creating member connections through networking and collaboration events, leadership luncheons and best practice tours.
