RFDS Victoria is supporting regional students studying nursing or allied health by offering four $3,000 Give Them Wings scholarships.
“Since university is a significant distance away from home I had to move into campus accommodation. This scholarshiphelped me buy textbooks, stationary and groceries as well as pay for the costs associated with living on campus,” said past Give Them Wings scholarship awardee Megan Peverill of Charlton.
As well as money towards study expenses, the scholarship includes a day of hands-on experience with a RFDS health care or patient transport team.
“Flying to Adelaide as a nurse observer with the RFDS was definitely an experience of a lifetime,” said Megan.
"Seeing first-hand what the RFDS provides to the community has confirmed that practising occupational therapy in rural communities is something that I would like to do in the future."
RFDS Victoria Chief Executive Scott Chapman says the Flying Doctor is proud to support young regional and rural Victorians who aspire to provide health care in rural areas through the ‘Give Them Wings’ scholarships.
“These scholarships are another way we can work to improve health outcomes in Victoria,” said Mr Chapman.
“The bush needs more health workers of all kinds. These scholarships encourage young people to return to regional and rural areas once they graduate,” he said.
Allied health and nursing students from country Victoria are encouraged to apply for a Give Them Wings scholarship by 31 March.
Our thanks to the dedicated volunteers of the RFDS Bayside Auxiliary whose fundraising efforts make these scholarships possible.
