RFDS patient moments thanks to Rio Tinto partnership

When every moment counts

Our long standing partnership with Rio Tinto means we can continue to provide essential healthcare to our patients across Western Australia, making every moment count.

The partnership has fostered growth and commitment to bringing the best healthcare to people when they need it most, wherever and whenever they need it. Since 2004, Rio Tinto have committed nearly $40 million to RFDS in Western Australia including the introduction of our 3 Rio Tinto PC-24 LifeFlight jets into our fleet.

In 1928 RFDS founder Reverend John Flynn saw the potential of new technology, such as aviation and radio communications, to help people living in some of Australia’s most remote areas. When every minute in the air can mean the difference between life and death, the Rio Tinto LifeFlight jets have the potential to save countless lives.

Ree Barrow's story

Mother Ree Barrow was urgently transferred from the Pilbara to Perth with an ectopic pregnancy. Ree was found to be carrying twins, but sadly one twin did not survive. Her pregnancy with the other baby continued and Ree now has a healthy baby girl.

“The RFDS are my earth angels. They are the reason why I am able to hold, feed, love and watch Dakoda grow.”
