After raising $7000 for the Flying Doctor in the 2018 Gibb Challenge, team 'Wonder Women' are back again to tackle the endless corrugations, dust, soft sand and water crossings along the Gibb River Road.
The Broome-based team of four friends were inspired to enter the Gibb Challenge after their partners returned from the 2017 event giving rave reviews.
One of the team, Roslyn, said: "The Gibb Challenge is one of those bucket list adventures which seems like a good idea when suggested over a few drinks down the beach!
"Next thing you know, you've purchased the flash bike, the padded pants and have started fundraising for the RFDS.
"The reality hit us halfway through the first day when the easterly winds made the challenging terrain of the Gibb River Road even more gruelling."
Roslyn said completing the challenge was no easy eat, so they've been busy training in preparation for this year's event.
"Training has involved us riding out as a team to Roebuck Roadhouse, which is about 35 kilometres from Broome," she said.
"We have breakfast together and we drive home. Some of the local team are also members of the local gym and do indoor spin classes together.
"I also have been riding to school, but that is only about three-and-a-half kilometres so that doesn't really count.
"Living in Broome, we hear lots of stories about how the Flying Doctor has helped out people in their darkest hour. Luckily we haven't had to use the service, but it is reassuring to know they are there for us."
Team Wonder Women is made up of Louise Lydeamore who works at Boab Health, Deputy Principal at Cable Beach Primary School Ceridwen Cameron, and school teachers Narelle Meiers and Roslyn Butcher.
