Our engineers were proud to work alongside year 12 Kent Street High School student, Harrison, during his work experience in our Jandakot hangar.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service WA welcomed Harrison for a two-day work experience program during the school holidays, where he had the chance to work on Pilatus jet engines and turbo props.

As an aspiring aviation mechanic, Harrison was excited to learn from our expert mechanical and avionics engineers.

“The RFDS is an amazing place, and they have the best hangars… with air conditioning!” said Harrison.

The RFDS WA work experience program is vital in connecting young, passionate students with career paths in the aviation industry.

Andy Lewis, Head of Engineering, was impressed with Harrison’s work ethic and thrilled to have his engineers inspire the future of the industry.

Harrison always gave his best and the engineers he worked with were very impressed with his maturity, enthusiasm and attitude.

Harrison recounts his time with the RFDS WA as a really good experience and has solidified his interest in applying for an RFDS WA Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Apprenticeship in 2025.

As part of our 2024 - 2028 Above and Beyond strategy, the RFDS WA is focused on building a sustainable and high-quality workforce through partnering with local schools with an aviation ATAR program.
