The Royal Flying Doctor Service (WA) is proud to announce our 2021 Flying Doctor Day campaign was recently selected as the state’s Most Innovative Fundraising Campaign by the Fundraising Institute of Australia (FIA) WA.
Flying Doctor Day 2021 celebrated the anniversary of the first ever RFDS lifesaving mission 93 years ago on 17 May 1928 and the lasting legacy of founder Reverend John Flynn.
Flying Doctor Day saw the activation of our first ever Matched Giving Day, our first Street Appeal in Perth CBD where our iconic Flying Doctor socks were a massive hit!
The day created a sense of community celebration, with many people engaging on social media or sharing their own Flying Doctor Story and 32 landmarks lit up around WA.
Flying Doctor Day engaged with local businesses, large corporates, media, members of parliament, major donors, community groups and individual donors, reaching donors online, in person and through direct mail.
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Flying Doctor Day raised more than $620,000, far exceeding our original target of $500,000.
Funds raised will be used to conduct clinical simulation training for RFDS medical crews, invest in leading technology to improve patient outcomes and purchase vital equipment to help the RFDS continue to save lives.
The Flying Doctor Day Campaign will now proceed to the Australian FIA Awards to be held in Sydney in February 2022 – fingers crossed for a national win for our campaign and for our Communications and Giving team.
On behalf of our team and patients, we thank everyone who celebrated our 93rd anniversary and helped raise much needed funds to keep us flying into the future.
We are so grateful to everyone who gave to our Giving Day and we loved reading your messages of support!
