Frequently Asked Questions for pilots

Become a pilot

What will my roster look like?

A 56-day roster is published for all pilots to view, outlining shifts and days off to assist in Employee work/life balance.

How many hours can I expect to fly every shift?

Once checked to line, pilots can fly up to eight hours per shift.

If Iā€™m short on flight hours, should I apply anyway?

If you are close to meeting the minimum hours, then yes, we suggest you apply. All applications are reviewed as part of the recruitment process.

What is the training/onboarding process like for RFDS pilots?

We hold a one-week induction at our Jandakot base, followed by in-house training on the aircraft type, and then ongoing six monthly checks.

What happens if my application is unsuccessful?

The main reason an application may not be successful is due to being short on hours or not having single pilot experience. We strongly encourage applicants to increase their experience and reapply in future.
