RETRIEVAL CONSULTANTS & RURAL GENERALISTS

The RFDS provides a supportive, dynamic and team-led environment for Retrieval and Rural Generalist Consultants to deliver comprehensive emergency and non-emergency care across South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Retrieval Consultants bring a wide range of skills to respond to medical, surgical and traumatic emergencies in remote locations. 

As well as responding to medical emergencies, Rural Generalists provide specialist care in all rural contexts and serve as a consistent health provider within communities for patients of all ages.

Nurses at RFDS Alice Springs Base

NURSES

The RFDS offers a range of roles including Flight Nurse, Remote Area Nurse and Primary Care Nurse.

Flight Nurses work as a part of multi-skilled team to assess and treat patients during aeromedical transfers, providing the finest care within the unique challenges presented by a a high-altitude, confined environment.

Remote Area Nurses work on a fly-in/fly-out roster to provide consistent access to medical support at the Flying Doctor’s five clinics based in South Australia. 

Primary Care Nurses work within the broader Community Health Care team in Port Augusta alongside Allied Health specialists to deliver regular fly-in clinics. 

We also offer development opportunities for nursing students including clinical placements and tertiary education pathways.

RFDS SA/NT Allied Health staff in SA

ALLIED HEALTH

Our team of Allied Health professionals includes Dietitians, Podiatrists, Physiotherapists, Dentists, Oral Health Assistants, Child & Family Health Nurses, Psychologists, Mental Health Workers and Aboriginal Health Workers, all of whom play a crucial role in addressing the diverse health needs of our patients. 

The RFDS continues to invest in its capacity to provide whole-of-life care to individuals and communities through a proven and trusted Comprehensive Community Care Model.

    RFDS SA/NT Road Ambulance Service

    ROAD AMBULANCE

    The Road Patient Transport team, comprising Paramedics and Patient Transport Officers, works closely with local health partners to support the repatriation and transfer of patients across South Australia and the Northern Territory.

    In addition, they provide medical coverage and support at a range of community events including festivals and sports matches.
