To Shantelle... the RFDS is there when her community needs it the most.
Recently the RFDS Nursing team was invited to provide First Aid and health promotion at the annual ‘Strong Women for Healthy Country’ Forum (SWHCN) at Crab Claw Island on Larrakia Country in the NT's Top End.
The SWHCN is dedicated to empowering Indigenous women caring for Country across the Territory.
Initiated in 2019, the SWHCN has grown to include over 250 Indigenous women rangers, Elders, healers, artists and community workers from more than 40 NT communities.
Convening annually, this Territory-wide forum celebrates connection to one another and their culture – fostering wellbeing, and building culturally safe and resilient communities.
As part of the RFDS’s partnership with Jean Hailes and the forum (which coincides with Women’s Health Week), Mauz Burns, Amy Douglas and Mandy Smallacombe from the RFDS team provided First Aid and valuable education to forum attendees, spotlighting women’s health issues across all ages in a culturally safe environment, on the beautiful banks of Larrakia Country.
From women’s healing to bush medicines, the event was also a special opportunity for the RFDS to learn more about how it can contribute to building a strong future for Indigenous women through its healthcare delivery.
